Resumen: Ceramics for Smart Systems (CSS) Group
The main objective of the Ceramics for Smart Systems (CSS) group is the design and development of functional ceramics and their integration into advanced systems. With extensive experience in microstructure control and its relationship with ceramic material properties, we seek functionalities applicable in “Smart Systems.” We utilize a variety of ceramics with electrical, magnetic, and optical properties, such as ferroelectrics, piezoelectrics, insulators, dielectrics, and semiconductors. Our work focuses on developing new materials and advanced technologies, as well as discovering new functionalities through a deep understanding of the involved physical and chemical phenomena.

- New materials at the nanoscale: Synthesis of new nanoparticulated and nanostructured materials using sustainable and safe processing routes. Dispersion and stabilization of nanoparticles. Functional ceramic materials free from critical raw materials.
- Functionalities in nanostructured materials: Understanding interfacial phenomena in nanomaterials, heterostructures, and composites. Functional materials for major societal challenges in health, safety, food, climate, and energy.
- Integration of functional materials in advanced technological processes: Developing materials and processes for the green and digital transition, including the recycling of functional materials through circular economy methodologies and creating new compositions and processes for the decarbonization of the ceramics industry.
